This role can be located in either our Santa Clara or Irvine, CA office.


What You Will Be Doing

In this role, you will work closely with the firmware development team working in an Agile development process to validate and verify firmware for Solid State Drives using NAND Flash memory. You will be expected to created test plans, define testing methods, specify required white box test interfaces, design test algorithms, and write Python test scripts to verify the implementation of an individual firmware module and its correct operation when it is integrated into the full product firmware. You will test the firmware in a variety of environments including simulation, FPGA prototyping, and on prototype hardware.


Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

Developing Python test scripts for controller firmware black, grey and white box testing for client and enterprise SSD.

Developing white-box oriented testing methods and infrastructure to exercise firmware functionality for new high-performance mass storage controllers.

Developing test scripts mainly in Python and C/C++ to validate firmware product and improve test coverage and efficiency.

Creating test plans and strategies to improve firmware quality.

Analyzing and triaging test results, performance, and quality data related to firmware products.

Report and track firmware/application issues and work together with developers to investigate/root-cause issues.

Capable of staying informed of the latest technical advances in simulation and test development and providing recommendations for future test and simulation activity to ensure state of the art capabilities.

Ability to develop test suites, and mentor and coach other test engineers. Familiar with best test practices.

Willingness to take on challenges and learn new technologies. 

Duplicating customer issues and establishing working relationships with firmware development engineers to solve cross-functional design issues.

Willingness to travel.

Education & Experience Necessary for Success
BS/MS in EE/CE/CS or related experience.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in firmware testing or development.
Highly skilled in Python, Pearl, Shell or C/C++. 
Experience with specifying and evaluating internal and external test systems
Experience developing corner case test plans and automated test result logs processing
Experience using simulations and virtual environments for firmware testing
Good understanding of popular operating systems such as Windows, Linux
Experience with test automation infrastructure 
Experience with test result analysis, failure duplication, and determining failure source
Knowledge of Agile development philosophy
Solid Verbal and written English communication skills.
Knowledge of test automation, testing methodologies, and test tools.
Ability to work within a team environment as well as ability to work independently.

What Makes You Special
Extensive experience in SSD testing, driving test technology and validation
Storage industry experience and experience with NVMe, SATA, or SAS protocol is a plus.
Familiar with protocol analyzer/tools, knowledge of protocol trace analysis is a plus.
